Overview

Course Objectives
This course aims to provide an in-depth understanding of bacterial classification, the mechanisms and applications of various antibiotics, and the management of multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacterial infections. Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge of the mechanisms of bacterial resistance and the strategies to combat MDR pathogens.

Course Topics:

1-Bacterial Classification

Understand the taxonomy and classification of bacteria.

2-Antibiotics that Inhibit Cell Wall

Learn about antibiotics that target bacterial cell wall synthesis.

3-Antibiotics that Inhibit Cell Membrane

Explore antibiotics that disrupt bacterial cell membranes.

4-Antibiotics that Inhibit Protein Synthesis

Study antibiotics that interfere with bacterial protein synthesis.

5-Antibiotics that Inhibit DNA Synthesis

Understand antibiotics that target bacterial DNA synthesis.

6-Beta-Lactam Beta-Lactamase Inhibitors

Learn about beta-lactam antibiotics and beta-lactamase inhibitors.

7-Mechanism of Bacterial Resistance

Understand the various mechanisms through which bacteria develop resistance.

8-Classification of Bacterial Resistance

Classify different types of bacterial resistance mechanisms.

9-Management of MDR Enterobacterales

Explore strategies for managing multi-drug resistant Enterobacterales infections.

10-Management of MDR Pseudomonas & Acinetobacter

Study the management of multi-drug-resistant Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter infections.

Course Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Classify and identify various bacteria.
Understand the mechanisms of action of different antibiotics.
Recognize and describe mechanisms of bacterial resistance.
Develop effective treatment strategies for infections caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria.
Apply knowledge of antibiotic mechanisms and resistance to clinical practice.
